Filmmaker and photographer Joao Marques takes us on a cinematic adventure with these frames. His moody lighting and location are on the frontline of his style.
SD: Where does your inspiration come from?
Joao: Mostly from cinema. Some of my favorite filmmakers are David Lynch, Teresa Villaverde, Jonas Mekas, and Robert Bresson.
SD: How would you describe your style?
Joao: I think I would describe it as a visual diary. Most of my work is created by instinct on my day to day. Sometimes I feel like taking photos, others not.
SD: What keeps you up at night?
Joao: Actually nothing, I never had sleeping problems haha. Sometimes I can't sleep usually because I woke up late that day and I'm trying to sleep early, and my brain starts thinking about all the stuff I want to do and I get really excited about it.
SD: What does emotion mean to you?
Joao: Emotions are what make us human/ able to create.
